Florence Rittenhouse and Edith R. Hedges Scholarship

With a grounding in journalism instilled by Professors Higginbotham and Janulis at the University of Nevada journalism program, Florence McC. Rittenhouse embarked on a successful journalism career at a daily newspaper in Utah, freelancing for several magazines and writing mystery novels for children. Her daughter, Mrs. Edith Rittenhouse Hedges ‘60 (dietetics), took a different career track. After earning her bachelor’s degree she went on to earn a master’s degree from Wisconsin-Madison and pursued a career in nutrition. She has been a consistent donor to the nutrition program at Nevada. To reflect these twin pursuits and to encourage students who have an interest in scientific/dietetic writing, this scholarship shall alternate annually between journalism and nutrition students.
