Dennis Stephen Hoover Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Education was very important to Dennis Hoover 69 (English). Being of modest means, he worked many jobs, including gas station attendant at night, putting himself through college. He had a tremendous memory and he delighted to impress his friends with his extensive and intricate knowledge of music, literature, poetry and history. It is, therefore, only fitting that this scholarship fund was established by Dennis’ friends and family to perpetuate the memory of a brilliant mind. Among the people who knew and loved Dennis was his uncle, Norman Hoover, ‘49 (civil engineering). Norm passed away during 2013, but chose to honor Dennis’ memory by including a gift to this scholarship in his estate. Norm’s estate gift to the scholarship named in memory of his nephew leaves a wonderful legacy for both of them. This scholarship has been established to support deserving students who are pursuing their goals of higher education at Nevada. Recipients shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to receive and retain the award and have demonstrated financial need. Preference shall be given to applicants who are graduates of Virginia City High School.
