Karen Gilbert Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Karen Jane Gilbert 80 (health education) was a member of a pioneering Nevada family who lived her formative years in Reno. Karen was active in campus organizations and graduated with a degree in health sciences but then went on to fashion a career in retailing. She was a group merchandise manager for Cost Plus, Inc., after previously working as a buyer for William Sonoma, I. Magnins and Macy’s. Karen died in 2001 after a long battle with colon cancer. Her parents, Kathleen and Dick Gilbert 49 (economics) established this scholarship endowment in her memory. Preference shall be given to full-time female students with at least a 3.0 GPA and are taking course work leading to a career in retailing, teaching or nursing.
