Matthew Pearce Endowed Scholarship

Matthew Steven Pearce was born in Nevada in 1981, graduating from Reno High School in 1999 and then went on to UNR. He loved the idea of college and being able to make his own choices. He had pledged a fraternity and had attended school for about three weeks when he became ill. Over the next two years, Matthew courageously fought his illness and never gave up the dream of going back to college. He was able to attend school when his illness permitted and he even finished some of his classes. While Matthew was an average student, he loved school with all its possibilities. His family and friends have shown their love for Matthew by bringing this scholarship to reality. Initial recipients shall be full-time sophomores from rural Northern Nevada high schools who demonstrate financial need.
