Winn Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1993 by W. Howard Winn, whose distinguished career in mining included 36 years with Kennecott Copper and 12 years as general manager of the Nevada Mines Division in Ely. Howard loved his adopted state of Nevada. He mentored many men and women in the mining industry who went on to achieve much in their own careers. Howard supported women in mining and took a prominent role in supporting them in the mining industry before it was popular to do so. He respected people for their ideas, their integrity and their contributions, regardless of their color or gender. His love of the Mackay School of Mines led him to fund a scholarship to support students majoring in mining engineering, chemical or metallurgical engineering or geologic engineering. Recipients are encouraged to work in the industry in the summer.
