Baskerville Endowed Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students
Lois Ann Sandorf Baskerville was born in1934 in Reno, the daughter of Professor Irving Jesse and Norma Louise Sandorf. She married Donald Baskerville in 1954 and graduated from the University of Nevada in 1955. In the early 1970s, Lois became a certified Braille transcriber and dedicated her time and resources to service for the blind and deaf-blind. She served as interpreter and guide for deaf-blind at multiple conventions, camps and events in the USA, Scotland, and England. After years of transcribing and teaching Braille transcribing, she founded the Northern Nevada Braille Transcribers, an all-volunteer group that served individuals around the world by providing Braille materials. This scholarship was established by her brother and sister-in-law, John and Mona Sandorf, to help carry on Lois’s work with the blind and deaf-blind and perpetuate her memory in this field. Recipient must be certified as visually impaired by the University of Nevada, Reno Disability Resource Center.
