Toby Ann Handelman Endowed Scholarship in the School of Medicine #1

Toby Ann Handelman was diagnosed with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) in the summer of 2003 and died in December 2003. Her parents, Harold and Hazel Handelman, established this memorial scholarship in the hopes of enabling research into blood disorders of this type. Recipients shall be academically superior, third or fourth year M.D. or Ph.D. student(s) in the School of Medicine. Preference shall be given to students studying hematology and/or oncology (disorders of the blood or blood clotting) with the understanding that student(s) often do not finalize their specialty decisions prior to the beginning of the fourth year of medical school. Recipients shall be Nevada residents with a preference for residents of Clark County who demonstrate financial need.
