James E. & Betty A. Melarkey Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Lifetime Nevada resident James E. Melarkey was born in 1922, in Reno. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno, both before and after World War II, where he studied engineering and had a very successful basketball career with the Nevada Wolf Pack. In 1976, he was inducted into the University of Nevada, Reno Hall of Fame. James was very proud of all the accomplishments of his children and his grandchildren, and had nearly perfect attendance at his grandchildren’s soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball games. James passed away in 2006 at which time this scholarship was established with generous gifts from the Melarkey Family and the community. Recipients shall be Nevada residents attending as full-time juniors or seniors with a minimum 3.25 GPA.
