NNWLA Annual Scholarship

In 1893, the Nevada Legislature enacted legislation that allowed women to practice law here for the first time, and in 1893, Laura May Tilden was the first woman to pass the Nevada Bar Exam. In 1978, a number of legal pioneers founded the Northern Nevada Women Lawyers’ Association (NNWLA) to assist women in their legal practice and development. As of 2020, the State Bare of Nevada reported that only 35% of Washoe County attorneys are women. In an effort to increase the number of women practicing, NNWLA established this scholarship. Recipients shall be pursuing a degree at the University of Nevada, Reno and be of sophomore standing or higher. Recipients shall demonstrate the intent to attend law school after completing their degree at the University of Nevada, Reno and demonstrate financial need. Recipients shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.The Donor desires that, when awarding this scholarship, special consideration be given to students with a commitment that matches the NNWLA’s goal to advance women in the profession of law. Additionally, the Donor desire that consideration be given to who have demonstrated experience living in diverse environments.
