Fred and Katherine Lymbery Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Fred Lymbery was born in 1908 and at an early age worked his way across the country as a lumberjack, eventually cooking in the camps until he was able to move into the restaurant business. The path took him across the country to San Francisco and then Reno where he managed and owned small restaurants. Katherine Winter was born in California in 1911 and as soon as she was old enough to hold a grape knife she was put to work cutting grapes in the vineyards of the San Joaquin Valley. After high school she eventually found her way to Reno where she met Fred. As time passed, both Fred and Kay emphasized the value of education to their children Cheryl and Gordon. Hard physical work coupled with intelligent and honest business dealings brought them success, but they saw that with a solid education even more doors could be opened. This endowment has been established by Fred and Cheryl Olson to honor the memory of Cheryl s parents, Fred and Katherine Lymbery. Recipients shall be full-time undergraduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA who have graduated from a Nevada high school and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is renewable annually, up to four consecutive years.
