Dr. Daniel S. Augustine Endowed Scholarship
Dr. Daniel Augustine began playing the tuba in the fifth grade in Columbus, Ohio, and continued to play when his family moved to Carson City in 1956. As a mathematics major at the University of Nevada, Reno, Dan played tuba in all the music ensembles marching band, concert band, brass quintet, brass ensemble, and community symphony. It was because of the encouragement of faculty that Dan decided to get a Ph.D. in music theory and teach it and tuba. Dan established the Dr. Daniel S. Augustine Scholarship Endowment in 2016 to encourage students studying any discipline at the University to explore their musical interests and engage with faculty and students who share their passion for music. Recipients shall have a 3.0 GPA and be pursuing a degree at the University of Nevada, Reno, full-time and have a demonstrable interest in music. Recipients are not required to be majoring or minoring in music but shall have a demonstrated interest, aptitude, and passion for music, including but not limited to vocal and instrumental studies, music theory, musicology, or music performance in the marching band, or numerous ensembles, quartets, and orchestras. Preference shall be given to students who play the tuba.
