Jeanette Ponton Leonard Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Jeanette Ponton valued education, was a role model of professionalism and promoted travel and study abroad. Her son is a secondary education teacher in math and science and has taught in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Washoe County. Her daughter is a Spanish lecturer in the Department of World Languages & Literatures at the University of Nevada, Reno and has served as an undergraduate academic advisor and director of the Basic Spanish Language Program. Recipients shall be full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Spanish at the University of Nevada, Reno who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference will be provided to students who meet any of the following criteria: demonstrate financial need, plan to teach Spanish, or have an interest in studying abroad.
