Willem Houwink Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Former University of Nevada, Reno Professor, Willem “Wim” Houwink was a popular instructor in economics from 1957 to 1983. This scholarship endowment was established by his many colleagues, friends and family. It is hoped that recipients of the Houwink Scholarship will make a commitment to pursue knowledge, develop a rigorous academic discipline, and maintain the moral strength necessary to pursue a career path that will lead to a better understanding of peoples and their cultures, thereby promoting peace. Funds will be used to support full-time undergraduate or graduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. To encourage the diversity and global awareness of the student population at the University of Nevada, Reno, recipients shall be students studying abroad during the academic year of the scholarship or students studying at the University of Nevada, Reno with F-1 or J-1 student visa status while receiving the scholarship. Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree from the College of Business with demonstrated financial need.
