William E. & Susan Forrest Sparkman DFS Endowed Scholarship

William and Susan Sparkman are educators who have dedicated their lives to helping students succeed at all levels from elementary school to graduate education. In 1998, William became dean of the College of Education at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he created the Dean s Future Scholars (DFS) program to support a group of low-income, first-generation students from the Washoe County School District each year beginning in the 6th grade and continuing each year until they graduate high school and enroll in college. Recipients shall be participants in the Dean s Future Scholars program pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree with preference for students majoring in education.
