Dent Hand Endowed Scholarship for Jazz

Dent N. Hand, Jr. retired to Nevada in 1996, where he enrolled in the Jazz Studies program at the University and played with the Reno Jazz Orchestra for several years. He continues to play trumpet with various jazz groups in the Bay Area and the Reno-Carson City corridor. Mr. Hand s lifelong love of music inspired him to support full-time students seeking a degree in the Department of Music. Undergraduate recipients shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, and graduate recipients shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to receive the award. Preference will be given to nominees who participate in the Jazz and Improvisational Music Studies Program in the Department of Music.
