A. Clark Hestmark Endowed Scholarship
Alfred Clark Hestmark served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War 2 after receiving permission from his parents to enlist at the age of 17. Following the war, he studied mechanical engineering and married the love of his life, Virginia Ginny Ware, and, upon graduation, embarked on a long and successful career as a civil engineer focusing on heavy end projects: dams, bridges, and, memorably, a tunnel under New York s East River. Mr. Hestmark utilized his G.I. Bill benefits during his university studies but those benefits ended before graduation. It is the wish of his wife, Virginia Hestmark, to honor his legacy by providing scholarship support to veterans who are majoring in engineering disciplines. Recipients may be either full-time or part-time students; undergraduate recipients shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and graduate students shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given veterans of the United States military, or if no veterans to those who can demonstrate that they are spouses or children of veterans of the United States military majoring in one of engineering disciplines at Nevada. If there are no eligible veterans, or spouses or children of veterans who otherwise meet the criteria, then the scholarship is open to Engineering majors, first in Mechanical, Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Biomedical, or Chemical and Materials Engineering, and second in Mining, Metallurgical, Geological, or Computer Science engineering.
