Horace P. Boardman and Frederick L. Bixby Quasi Scholarship

John Sylvester Kenny Smith 34 (engineering) contributions to the engineering profession go beyond his project accomplishments. During his long career, Mr. Smith served as a mentor to many successful professionals in the field. His love of advancing the profession and mentoring engineers is demonstrated in his designating the remainder of his trust in the form of scholarships to his alma mater, the University of Nevada, Reno and its civil engineering students. As directed by the trust, this scholarship is established in the names of John s former professors, Horace P. Boardman and Frederick L. Bixby. According to the John S. Kenny Smith Trust dated July 17, 2001, The scholarship proceeds shall be payable to students in the School of Civil Engineering who have completed at least three years of study and who, in the opinion of the university administration, have attained a high degree of academic achievement and have contributed to the university community.
