Nathan G. Leipold Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Reno native Nathan G. Leipold (1955-1991) was always involved in human rights and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community. He began working towards civil rights while in high school and continued throughout his life. Nathan was also one of the founding members of the Silver Dollar Court and was elected by the community three times to be one of the title holders, responsible for its fundraising efforts for the year. The Silver Dollar Court is the oldest continuously operating LGBTQIA+ organizations in the state of Nevada. In 1978, Nathan started a pageant for the LGBTQIA+ community as a fundraiser for a new scholarship he was creating. After he passed away, the funds were turned over to the Silver Dollar Court, an organization he loved and which had special meaning to him, to continue the scholarship in Nathan s memory. The Board of Trustees of the Silver Dollar Court, Inc. and its members have now entrusted the University of Nevada, Reno with an endowment fund to continue on behalf of the Silver Dollar Court, Inc. and in loving memory of Nathan G. Leipold. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible for this scholarship, and may be enrolled full-time or part-time. Preference shall be given to students who have interest in, have promoted, and/or positively contributed to diversity and inclusion awareness and/or the LGBTQIA+ community.
