Shewan Family Pre-Law Endowed Scholarship

Upon graduation, James Jim Shewan 71 (history) was commissioned as a second lieutenant but deferred his service to attend law school. Jim went on to serve in the U.S. Army and then prosecutor in the Washoe County District Attorney s Office. Upon leaving the DA s office, Jim ended his career as the Director of the Criminal Justice Program at Lubbock Christian University, a post he held from 2005 until his retirement in 2016. Jim established this scholarship in recognition of the rising costs of a college education to ensure other students have access to the world-class education he received at the University of Nevada, Reno. Recipients shall be pursuing a undergraduate degree, full-time or part-time, in history, communication studies, political science, criminal justice, philosophy or English in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno and must be junior or senior class standing. Recipient shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. and there is a preference for recipients who demonstrate the intent to attend law school after completing their undergraduate degree.
