Mariluz Garcia DFS Endowed Scholarship

Mariluz Garcia 03 (elementary education), 07 MA (counseling & educational psychology), 19 Ph.D. (education) is a first-generation college student who was raised in Elko, Nev. Garcia has 19 years of experience working with low-income, first-generation students in a variety of settings including as a graduate assistant for the Dean s Future Scholars program, which she has been the executive director of for 10 years. In 2022, Garcia founded the Nevada First-Gen Network to help prospective first-generation college students in grade 6 or higher who were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in Nevada. Recipients of this scholarship must be pursuing a degree from the University and can be Dean s Future Scholars students, alumni or mentors.
