James L. Starr Family Scholar Leader Endowed Scholarship

James Starr 85 (accounting) grew up in the Reno area and funded his own education at Nevada as a first-generation college graduate. James worked in public accounting for five years with both Deloitte and Arthur Andersen. He then served in senior finance and CFO roles across the country. James has a keen focus on supporting community needs including supporting public educational as executive director of Achieve Hartford in Connecticut and driving innovative cancer research through fundraising for and participating on the board for Pedal the Cause in Missouri. This scholarship is for business students at the University of Nevada, Reno with a preference to those who are pursuing a degree in accounting. Recipients shall participate in activities associated with The College of Business Scholar Leader Program and maintain a 3.25 GPA. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need and have graduated from a southern Nevada high school.
