Harold and Catherine Fitz Scholarship Endowment
Harold E. Fitz was born in 1902 and came with his family from Michigan who homesteaded near Fallon in the Stillwater area of Nevada in 1904. His father came to Nevada to work on the Newlands Water Project which would eventually provide the irrigation system to the area. He married Catherine on in 1928 and the couple bought an 80-acre wheat and alfalfa ranch near Stillwater, and subsequently purchased another 320 acres, the Dalton Ranch. They were incredible philanthropists in their community and beyond, funding projects in the local park, churches, senior citizens center and the Churchill County Museum where the Dodge-Fitz exhibit is named in their honor. In the early 1990s established this endowed scholarship to benefit students who have graduated from Churchill County High School are of sophomore standing and have at least a 3.0 GPA. The award shall be renewable for two years (junior and senior year) so long at the recipient maintains the criteria as outlined.
