Derek Drake, DNP Scholarship in Nursing
The population of the United States is among the most diverse in the world, but the racial, ethnic, and gender diversity of the U.S. health care workforce does not match the patient populations served. Increasing diversity among health care professionals improves access to care for minority patients, improves patient choice and satisfaction, and allows for better educational experiences for health professional students. Racial, ethnic, and gender minorities account for over 30% of the U.S. population, but fewer than 15% of all Registered Nurses (RNs). The Derek Drake, DNP Scholarship in Nursing is established to promote worldwide improvements in patient safety, experience, and outcome by providing financial assistance to men aspiring to advance their nursing education and professional development. Recipients shall be full-time or part-time students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the Orvis School of Nursing with a minimum 3.0 GPA. To address gender underrepresentation in the field and in the major, preference for male student recipients.
